Wind turbine manufacturer Alstom has received formal notice to proceed (NTP) on the Block Island Windfarm, and the project will showcase five Alstom Haliade 150 6-MW wind turbines featuring LM Wind Power's innovative 73.5m blades.
According to LM Wind Power VP of offshore Development, Alexis Crama, "The rotor set is one of the most influential ways to reduce overall cost of offshore wind energy and LM Wind Power is proud to be chosen as a critical part of the equation. Multi-turbine demonstration projects of this nature are crucial to prove the viability of offshore wind in the US and bring the industry one step closer towards utility-scale deployments and manufacturing scale."
